Back to the Basics- Worship
One of our five core values is worship. Do you worship God? When we feel distant and alone, when we don’t have the sense of wonder and awe at who God is and what he is doing in and around us, when we don’t hear his voice and we aren’t aware of his presence, we need to look at our worship. Not, “Do you come to church?” or, “Do you attend a worship service?” The real question is, “Do we regularly and genuinely open our heart to love God back?” How often and in what ways do we express to God our love, our gratitude and our devotion? The psalmist writes, “Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Worship is to be direct, emotional, expressive, intentional, active and recurring. Worship should be joyful. Worship should make you smile. Worship should warm your heart. When worship is missing from our daily experience or our life in general, we grow cold and distant. Take some time today to get alone with God and sing a hymn or chorus to him, stop for a moment in a picturesque place and quietly marvel at his majesty, or take time to give thanks for all the good things that are a part of your day. Worship is loving God back.
