Let’s be honest.
There are times on the journey of our spiritual lives when although we
know we are God’s children and we know God has saved us from our sins, we do
not feel connected to God. We feel distant and alone. We don’t have the sense
of wonder and awe at who God is and what he is doing in and around us. We don’t
hear his voice, and we aren’t aware of his presence. During seasons like this,
we need to take inventory of the “basics” of the Christian life. We should take an honest look at ourselves
and see if we are directing our energy and our passion toward the things that
fuel a vibrant Christian life.
At Fairhaven, we talk about five core values which should be
present in the life of every believer: worship, outreach, equipping, serving
and community. What happens if we look at those values as the “basic building
blocks” for a healthy, vibrant, connected Christian life? When our Christian
life is not what we expect, we might begin by looking down to see if those
basic building blocks are firmly under our feet. Oftentimes, they are not,
which is why we feel off balance--empty or disconnected from God. In the next few posts, I'll examine
each of those values from the perspective of how they affect our Christian
experience.
